FairCheck HR in your Pocket

HR Chat

An assistant for questions about Australian pay rates, awards, classifications, penalties, leave and other workplace entitlements — and about whatever you are looking at in FairCheck.

Asking a question

There are two ways in:

  • The chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of every FairCheck page (for signed-in users). Its panel is headed "FairCheck HR assistant", shows the last twenty messages of the current conversation, and has an "Open full chat" link.
  • The full page at "HR in your pocket" (/chat), with a sidebar of conversations and the whole thread.

Both use the same conversations, so a chat started from the bubble continues on the full page.

When you ask from the bubble, the assistant is told what kind of page you are on — a payslip result, the payslip compliance list, the pay calculator or enterprise agreements — and which record, by its id only. The server then looks the record up itself and passes on only non-identifying details: the award and classification, employment type, pay period, processing status, the verdict, the base rate and award minimum, the accuracy tier and up to five flagged checks. Never names, never payslip values.

On a payslip result the "Ask why this result" button opens the bubble with a question already typed about that verdict. You still press send.

Press Enter to send, Shift + Enter for a new line. A message can be up to 2,000 characters. The first message names the conversation from its first few words.

Answers are general information, not legal advice — the footer of both surfaces says so.

Conversations

The full page lists "Recent conversations" in the sidebar (the most recent 30) and "New Chat" starts another. The menu on a conversation offers:

  • "Rename" — up to 60 characters.
  • "Delete" — asks "Delete this conversation? This can't be undone."

Conversations are personal to you and the account you were in when you started them.

Limits

Per person: 10 messages a minute, 60 an hour and 200 a day. Past a limit the form shows "Too many messages — please slow down and try again shortly."

Each request sends at most the last 20 turns of the conversation to the model.

There is also a global daily spend cap across all users. When it is reached, or the AI provider is unavailable, the assistant degrades to a fixed fallback reply rather than an error page. Those fallback replies are not fed back into later history.

Privacy

Every message you type is run through FairCheck's PII filter on the server — nothing leaves the machine for that step — before it is stored. Message text is stored tokens-only: names and other identities are replaced with placeholders, and the map back to real values is kept encrypted with the account's own key. Your screen re-attaches them locally when a message is shown.

The model only ever sees the placeholder tokens, plus the page context described above and the reference material it retrieves: the Fair Work Act and National Employment Standards, the matched modern award, this account's enterprise agreements, and, where applicable, the employer's policy library. Award codes such as MA000009 are public identifiers and are never redacted. Employer or employee names are never sent to reference sites.

Conversations that have been idle for 90 days (the default retention window) are deleted.
